What is Dialysis?
It is a process for removing waste and excess water from the blood and is used primarily as an artificial replacement for lost kidney function in people with renal failure.
Allopathic Treatment starts with Dialysis and ends with Transplant. When a patient is advised for dialysis, the doctor also explains the need for a transplant. Dialysis is not the treatment. Slowly with dialysis kidney becomes more dependent on the dialysis process and stops working to whatever degree they were functional earlier. Dialysis frequency goes on increasing and the ultimate option is to transplant. This is True with allopathic medicine but not according to Ayurveda. So you can say Dialysis is just a bridge till the patient can support dialysis or search for a donor for the transplant. An alternative to dialysis is Ayurveda 24 renal care kit.
Ayurvedic Concept
Kidneys are made up of “Rakta” and “Meda” dhatus. Treating this two dhatus is an effective way to treat the kidneys. According to Ayurveda, the human body is made of 3 doshas – Vata, pitta, Kapha. When they are in the synchronized form it depicts a healthy body system. The disease is caused by vitiated doshas. In Renal Impairment, Kledak Kapha, Apana Vayu & Pachak Pitta are vitiated. Ayurveda works to synchronize these three doshas. Also, when these herbs help as an excellent alternative to dialysis treatment.
Goals of Ayurvedic Treatment for kidney failure
- Support the kidneys until they have healed and can work properly.
- Prevent or treat any complications caused by acute renal failure.
- Correct or treat the cause of kidney failure.
With Ayurvedic Medicine, kidney damage can be either partly or fully reversed. Herbs have active ingredients that act to repair & rejuvenate renal epithelium. These herbs also eliminate toxins from the body & decrease Urea & Creatinine. They also decrease the complications of CKD like atherosclerosis. With Ayurvedic Treatment frequency of dialysis can be reduced, even can be completely stopped.
Many herbs help in Decreasing Urea & Creatinine
- Moringa oleifera (Shigru) – has Aksheeva property i.e. It relieves intoxication, also increases Urine flow.
- Asparagus racemose (Shatavari)
- Berberis aristata (Daruharidra) and Tricosanthe dioica (Patol).
Ayurvedic Treatment not only decreases urea and creatinine but plays many other roles to treat kidneys.
Multiple actions of Ayurvedic Treatment
- 1) Renormalization of urinary pH
Equisetum arvense renormalizes & maintains the urinary pH towards alkaline range (From 7.0 to 7.5 )
- 2) Diuretic action
Boerhavia Diffusa, Onosma bracteatum, Achyranthes Aspera, Tribulus Terrestris
- 3) Antimicrobial action of herbs
- Ocimum basilicum
- Tribulus Terrestris
- Equisetum arvense
- Rubia cordifolia(Manjistha)
- Ocimum basilicum
- Equisetum arvense
These herbs have potent anti-inflammatory activities. They also have Broad-spectrum antimicrobial action against common pathogens responsible for
recurrent UTIs.
- 4) Antioxidant
- Rubia cordifolia
- Ocimum basilicum
- Equisetum arvense
- Tectona grandis
- 5) Decreasing Proteins in Urine
- Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha)
- Tribulus Terrestris
- Quercus infectoria (Majhuphal)
- Swertia Chirayaita Chiraita
- 6) Playing the roles of Kidney
- Increases Urine quantity.
- There are few Herbs that excrete Urea & Creatinine through the fecal route.
- These herbs actually help in reducing dialysis frequency & are the best treatment & are alternative to dialysis.
- Tribulus terrestris (Gokshura), Boerhaavia Diffusa ( Punnarnava) & Crataeva nurvala (Varuna) increases Urine flow.
- Rubia cardifolia (Manjistha) – helps in excretion.
- 7) Repairing renal parenchyma
- Boerhaavia diffusa (Punnarnava), Tribulus Terrestris (Gokshura), Pistacia lentiscus (Rumimastagi) – repair & rejuvenate the Renal Parenchyma.
- Phyllanthus niruri (Bhumiamalaki), Cichorium intybus (kasani) – Anti-bacterial and anti-viral action, they clear the viral overload from kidney & liver.
- Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) – decrease load or pressure on kidneys created by Diuretics.
Can we stop Dialysis?
Answer to this question is simple but not easily acceptable by people who are used to taking Allopathic Treatment. Dialysis can’t be stopped with Allopathic medicine. With Ayurvedic treatment yes it’s possible. Even dialysis can be stopped in a specific period of time which obviously depends on the patient’s response to the treatment. If the patient is not on dialysis yet, then it can well be avoided if ayurvedic treatment is started timely. The best alternative to dialysis is Ayurvedic treatment & Ayurveda 24 renal care kit.
