Bala is a valuable Ayurvedic medicinal herb. Bala means ‘strength’. Bala is used in formulation of medicated oils for treating joint pain, swelling and improving strength of bones, muscles and joints. It helps in the treatment of broad spectrum of ailments such as bronchial asthma, fever, dry cough, nervous debility, emaciation, infertility etc.

It grows as an erect hairy plant. It can be seen as a weed across the tropical and subtropical regions in India and Sri Lanka. According to Ayurveda, Bala is light to digest & increases the moistness of tissues. It also acts as a body coolant. Bala is used mostly as a one of the best herbs for weight loss, asthma and bronchitis.

It contains Asparagin, alkaloids: Ephedrine, hypaphorine, vasicinone, vasicine and vasicinol, choline, betaine, phytosterol, mucin, saponine, gelatin, potassium nitrate, rutin, sterculic acid, malvalic and coronaric acid, fatty acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid etc.
